Nigeria’s former Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Yusuf Maitama Sule has died at the age of 88 years old.
He died in the early hours of Monday while on admission at a hospital in Cairo, Egypt.
He was said to have been flown to the Egyptian hospital on Saturday after doctors at Kano’s Nasarawa Hospital diagnosed him of pneumonia and chest infection.
Meanwhile, Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has expressed profound sorrow about the news of the death of elder statesman, Maitama Sule.
Osinbajo in a statement signed by his media aide, Laolu Akande, described the late elder statesman as a national asset whose immense contributions will be missed.
The acting president also urged family, friends and associates the two-time minister, to be consoled by the fact that his selfless commitment to the stability of Nigeria will not be forgotten and would always be honoured.
