Drake and Rihanna may not be friends anymore… but now they’re not Instagram mutuals, either.
After Rihanna revealed to Vogue last week that the former couple are, uh, not on speaking terms, Drake solidified the fact that there will be no more love — real or fake — going down with a classic Instagram unfollow, Pop Crave reported. The decision comes after Rihanna said in the interview, “We don’t have a friendship now, but we’re not enemies. It is what it is. The magazine also noted that she reportedly “winced” when his name was spoken. Teen Voguehas confirmed the report by checking Drake’s follow list.
We already knew that Drake has been a big fan of RiRi, for, well, forever. When he presented her with the Video Vanguard Award at the VMAs in 2016, he said: “She is someone I’ve been in love with since I was 22 years old. She’s one of my best friends in the world. All my adult life, I’ve looked up to her even though she’s younger than me. She’s a living, breathing legend in our industry.”
But Rihanna also mentioned in the Vogue interview that Drake’s gesture was too much for her, by saying: “The VMAs is such a fan-focused awards show, so having that energy around me, and knowing the people who had received the award in the past, made it feel like a big deal. Waiting through that speech was probably the most uncomfortable part. I don’t like too many compliments; I don’t like to be put on blast.”
All in all, Rihanna has made it clear that she’s not interested in Drake, (though they’ve collaborated on at least five songstogether) and apparently, Drake has taken the hint. Meanwhile, Rihanna has continued on being the queen, or should we say, pope, of our hearts. At Monday night’s Met Gala, the event cohost rocked a papal-inspired ensemble in a bishop’s hat and Margiela dress, instantly becoming one of the best-dressed of the night.
